    DAY 3. BIRMINGHAM. 40DAYRISK.COM

No drama today…well….a tiny bit….but pretty calm for the most part.

We pulled out of Chattanooga with no idea what we would find in Birmingham.

    I sent out a tweet…some text messages…a couple facebook posts…and waited.

I got a call from my buddy Tony Lucido in Nashville. He has a friend down in Bham named Brad Lyons. Brad knew of a bar called Metro Bistro, and his friend Jon Poor was playing there tonight. So…he called Jon and asked if I could open….and Jon said yes.

That added some comfort. So I thought I would check in at a nicer hotel today, since we haven’t spent much money so far. Wouldn’t ya know it….the nicer hotel had no roll-away bed…and only one hard line for internet…no wireless. So..I go to the front desk and ask for some help….theyre response…”we’d be happy to check you out sir, so you can go somewhere else”. All I’m saying is this….and I’m not bitter or angry…but THE SHERATON in BHAM is twice the price of crappy hotels, with less to offer.

There is an upside to being poor….for real! Crappy hotels have HBO, free wireless internet, free breakfast…and Cots. What else do you need? I didn’t make a big deal in the lobby of the Sheraton…but I got close. Be as it may….shitty hotels are the way to go!

I found another hotel room and fell asleep. My body is really tired. My head is tired. I passed a sign on the highway today for Nashville and got sad…kinda’ like the time your mom dropped you off for the first day of school, and you were like “what the hell?”….that kind of sad. But we pulled through.

The show tonight was great. 10 people in a bar….and they listened. Sold a few CD’s.

But here’s where it gets cool. As I was leaving, the owner came up to me and gave me 50 bucks and said Thank You. The bartender gave me a t-shirt, and Brad Lyons bought one CD but paid me for 4.

I struggle with my faith. But I learned something today…..show up…and the rest will happen. You don’t need some amazing gift. You don’t need some grand sales pitch. Just be you….and love people…even if your not good at it….and let the pieces fall where they may. God will take care of the rest…..that sounds kinda’ preachy…but im serious…Ive seen it work for the past 3 days. I aint sayin’ its easy or that I understand  how it all works…Im simply saying this….Be Yourself…hold on to God’s hand…pray your ass off….and then watch what happens. Its scares the crap out of me everyday….But I like it. Its beats the Boring Norm!

I played 6 songs, and walked out of the bar with 100 bucks. Today was a good day.

    I am undeserving….and grateful.

Tomorrow is Atlanta.  Im off to try and sneek in to the pool. I have no shorts. :)
